Car Battery is Dead: What to Do?

We’ve all been there—you’re ready to head out, but nothing happens when you turn the key in the ignition. A dead car battery is frustrating and can leave you stranded, especially in extreme weather conditions. So, what should you do when your car battery dies? Here’s a quick guide to help you; if you need assistance, Tim’s Towing & Recovery is here for you!

1. Check for Basic Issues

Before panicking, check the obvious issues. Make sure your car is fully in park and that the lights or electronics haven’t been accidentally left on. Sometimes, leaving an interior light overnight can drain the battery completely.

2. Jumpstart the Battery

If you have jumper cables and another car nearby, you can try to jumpstart the battery. Connect the positive (red) cable to the positive terminal of your dead battery and the other car’s working battery. Do the same with the negative (black) cable on the negative terminals. Start the working car and let it run for a few minutes before trying to start yours. If your car starts, let it run for at least 15 minutes to recharge the battery.

However, if your car doesn’t start after this, you might need to replace the battery, or there could be a more serious electrical issue. In this case, you should call for professional help.

3. Call a Professional Tow Truck Company

Calling a reliable towing service is your best bet if you don’t have jumper cables or a second car.
