Tim’s Towing Provides Heavy Truck Towing for Semi in Ditch
When you combine two tractor-trailers, a high rate of speed, and a ditch, the outcome is almost always a need for heavy truck towing. Tim’s Towing & Recovery dealt with this exact equation not long ago. With the right equipment and a knowledgeable team, they prevented a bad situation from becoming much worse.
On Monday, December 30, 2019, at 3:15 AM, the Savannah Police Department contacted Tim’s Towing & Recovery for assistance with a heavy truck towing job. Arriving within forty-five minutes to the scene on I-16 West, our team began assessing the nature of the call.
While attempting to exit, a truck clipped the front corner on the cab of another tractor-trailer that was sitting in the emergency lane broken down. This caused the moving semi to pop a tire and break an axle. The driver then lost control, running off into a ditch and up an embankment, leaving the trailer teetering on its side at a 45-degree angle. Amazingly, the other semi remained comparatively unscathed in the emergency pull-off lane.
Our heavy truck towing team found the semi with the trailer’s back corner lodged in dirt, yet haphazardly threatening to turn over. As the refrigerated trailer carried several tons of vegetable oil and produce, a quick recovery was needed to prevent an even bigger mess. We went to work immediately.
The heavy truck towing team attached straps and cables from one of its heavy wreckers to the tilted trailer for stabilization. Then, using two additional heavy wreckers, they pulled the truck out backward from the embankment. Since the trailer was damaged, the team loaded it onto a Landoll trailer and hauled it away.
With the proper equipment and quick thinking, Tim’s heavy truck towing team kept the refrigerated trailer from rolling over. We were able to successfully recover the tractor-trailer and tow it away.
