#1 Choice In Off-Road Recovery

Off-Road Recovery Success

Off-Road Recovery in Savannah was needed when an excavator operator drove the excavator into soft ground and it started to sink.  When Tim’s Towing and Recovery started the job, the excavator was buried all the way up to the top of the counterweight on the back of the heavy machine; a challenging situation for any off-road recovery.

In fact, several other towing companies had refused to attempt the extraction, determining it was too challenging. Tim’s Towing and Recovery was called in to rescue the situation.

A 60-ton rotator and a 50-ton wrecker had to work extra hard as the rain-saturated ground was soft and sticky. The arm and bucket on the excavator continued trying to grab hold and aid in the off-road recovery effort but were little help. For 6 exhausting hours, the team at Tim’s worked together to successfully extract the excavator. The off-road recovery was successful.

Thankfully, we can report that Tim’s Towing got the job done without accidents, injuries, or damage.

Details on Off-Road Recovery

A 60,000 pound excavator was stuck in the muck on a job site in Savannah and needed off-road recovery. The land had been cleared for port expansion and was filling in a low lying area for stabilization. Tim’s Towing and Recovery assessed that the stuck and sunken excavator, to determine how to best handle the off-road recovery. The excavator’s treads couldn’t push against solid ground which made the off-road recovery especially difficult. Tim’s determined that a great deal of power was needed in the form of a 60 Ton Rotator and 50 Ton Wrecker. As the excavator was backed into a hole and as the Tim’s team didn’t want the 60 Ton Rotator and 50 Ton Wrecker to become stuck during the off-road recovery, the three-member team proceeded with caution.

They knew it was going to be a challenging off-road recovery. The three team members at Tim’s, used the winches on both vehicles and attached the hooks to secure parts of the excavator. Several times during the off-road recovery, the excavator fell back. Slowly, they moved the excavator out a bit at a time. The idea was to keep it right-side up, easing it out during the off-road recovery. As it inched along during the 6-hour recovery, the excavator finally started to reach firm ground. The Tim’s team moved very slowly and methodically during the off-road recovery. They knew it was going to be a challenging off-road recovery.
